What is Registered Massage Therapy, Exactly?

Registered Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of gaining a therapeutic effect.  Soft tissues include skin, muscle, tendons, ligaments, membranes,  connective tissue and fascia.  Generally, massage is known to affect the circulation of blood and the flow of lymph, reduce muscular tension, affect the nervous system through stimulation or sedation and enhance tissue healing.

In Ontario, Registered Massage Therapists fall under the auspices of their Governing Body – The C.M.T.O. and are required to adhere to strict standards of practice.
